Wreaths Across Eagle Chapter – Eagle Chairman's Visit at Arlington for Christmas 2022
Every Sunday following the Wreaths Across America (WAA) visit to lay wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery, the Eagle Chairman, Lee Chambers, visits the internments of all 25 plus spouses and one child buried at Arlington. The purpose of the visit is twofold:
1. Many of the family members are no longer local or never were local to the DC area, so the Chairman's annual Christmas visit fulfills the visit at this very important time of the year.
2. The Chairman ensures that the grave receives a wreath. The Arlington National Cemetery has over 300,000 graves. In the early years, WAA didn't always have enough wreaths to cover all graves. So the Eagle Chairman takes about a handful of wreaths to ensure that he can cover the wreaths during the one visit so he doesn't have to make repeated trips.
This year, I had a third purpose - to ensure that the directions to all graves were so detailed - to include landmarks - that anyone could take the instructions and visit all graves. Barring construction that blocks a road, the addition of trees, the addition of graves - the landmark details get you close enough to figure out a grave location.
